Late Nihar Bose , Ex – Minister , Government of West Bengal , an eminent social worker
and other education loving persons of the area had their vision to bring the entire area of Santinagar,
Palta , under a single umbrella which would bring together the whole gamut of educational
amenities from Primary school to a respectable seat of Higher education and further to an institute of
technical education.They envisaged a concerted movement to help the displaced persons in the early
1950 s to rise above the dejection of being rendered homeless due tothe partition and cherish the dream
of a smooth cruise to a prosperous future through their children ,who would be equipped with the best
possible education and hold their heads high in the society .This mission for the progress and benefit
of socially and economically backword students in an underdeveloped area was fulfilled with the
establishment of P.N. Das College on 20 th August , 1962 by Late Debesh Das,a timber merchant.
by profession , who provided the necessary finance to the collge in memory of his father Late Priya Nath
Das.
The college started with a few students and it was affiliated to the University of Calcutta as a co-educational
Degree college in the1962 – 63 session. Over the years the institution has been flourishing to cater to the needs
of the locality and surrounding areas .Initially ,the college started with a few subjects in the Arts Faculty
and in 1975 76 session the Commerce ( Pass ) stream received affiliation from Calcutta University .Later,
Honours courses in Commerce and different subjectsin the Arts Faculty were also included in the curriculum.
Affiliation of the B.Sc. ( General ) stream was obtained in the session 2003 – 2004 with the introduction
of Mathematics (General ) .
The aims of the college is to nourish the students to practice value based education and also to open
up opportunities of higher education to the economically and socially backwardstudents.Teaching self–
sufficiency to the students by taking up different programmes of extra–curricular activities is also
the motto of the Institution .
The aim of the institution is to give its pupils a congenial atmosphere of learning , by taking
individual care of each student and building up an intimate relationship between the teachers
and the taught .
Just a few minutes walk from Plta station on the Sealdah - Naihati Section of the Eastern Railway ,
P.N. Das college offers you a modest seat of learning.Accessible also from Barasat Road,Barrackpore-
Kalyani Expressway and Barrackpore - Ghoashpara Road , the college, situated on a picturesque 4 acre
strip of land , provides a unique blend of rural green and quietude and modern urban amenities of education.
